As anyone who hasn’t been living beneath a rock knows, congratulations are in order to the Spanish national soccer team. Thanks to an exciting performance in yesterday’s close overtime game, they’re the current World Cup champions.
Today’s Awesome, though, isn’t about La Furia Roja, or the game, or really even the World Cup itself. It’s about a plastic horn that made quite a buzz — awful pun intended — at this year’s World Cup games. Yes, folks, I’m talking about the vuvuzela. (If you’re not familiar with it, hear what the noise is about here.)
To some, perhaps, the vuvuzela horn produced a welcome song. A battle cry, or something. To me, however, it produced an urge to return back to that rock I was under before all this World Cup hubbub started. That’s probably why watching Tom Dickson blend a vuvuzela in a Blendtec blender for one of his “Will It Blend?” videos brought me so much joy.
If you’ve never watched a “Will It Blend?” video, it’s pretty much exactly what the title would make it seem — people send in suggestions of things for host Tom Dickson to blend, and, well, the man blends. Below, watch Mr. Dickson turn one of those vuvuzelas into nothing more than a pile of shredded plastic, and let’s all hope that none of us will have to hear that incessant, droning buzz ever again. Please?
