Update: Now you can also watch Tweedy recite “My Humps.” Check out the video below.
It’s not something you see every day: one of America’s best living songwriters covers a song that you hope to dodge in grocery stores or fast food joints. In a video posted by Time Out Chicago, Jeff Tweedy of Wilco covers the Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling,” and he approaches it with the enthusiasm and comfort level of someone passing a kidney stone.
The tongue-in-cheek version is hysterical, especially with Tweedy prodding the audience to participate with lines like, “’Tonight’s the night.’ You don’t know that part? There’s a part where I say the words and then you say this list of things that seem to be there for people to shout in between the lyrics. Like, I say ‘Tonight’s the night,’ and you say ‘Hey!’”
You can watch Tweedy have a good, good night below.
