As the A.V. Club pointed out today, everyone’s favorite fictional paper company from Scranton is no longer completely fictional: NBCUniversal just inked a deal with Staples Inc.‘s Quill.com website to license The Office’s beloved company name for use as the name of an actual brand of copy paper.

The irony of Dunder Mifflin’s in-universe competitor Staples now selling paper under the Dunder Mifflin name aside, it’s a smart strategy on behalf of both Staples and NBC to drive up demand for copy paper in an increasingly digital world and help curb The Office’s declining ratings and viewership, respectively. But the main purpose Dunder Mifflin Brand Copy Paper will probably serve is to simply provide some much-needed humor in stuffy offices — the packaging will feature humorous taglines such as “92 bright, 100% fun!” and “Get your scrant on.”

Of course, this new Dunder Mifflin brand of paper is priced at a premium compared to generic copy paper, and thus it may be that only diehard The Office fans will take the bait. The paper is only available for purchase for a limited time through Jan. 31, 2012.
