Watch Darth Vader Sell Out
As it turns out, you might have to compromise your image just a little bit to pay for a Death Star. Retina Burn Blog posted a montage today of all of Darth Vader’s appearances in commercials, and as it turns out, there’s a lot of them. Check out the video below to see the Sith Lord sell batteries, soda, M & Ms and tickets to Disneyland.
The montage was done out of frustration after an advertisement was launched last week by a UK electronics retailer called Currys/PC World, which is part of a company that has a licensing agreement that can use characters from Star Wars. The whole deal left a bad taste in the blog poster’s mouth:
“It seems a little repugnant to use a fictional cinematic character to endorse products, and raises new issues for me, especially when it’s a character as iconic as Darth Vader,” the blog post said. “First and foremost it feels like a collision between art and commercialism. With an actor, you’re conscious that it is within their job description to play a part, and to a small degree, there is a bond of trust and honesty.”
Whatever your opinion on the whole thing is, it’s pretty entertaining to see one of the most feared characters in sci-fi reduced down to a selling point. You can check out Retina Burn Blog’s video below.
