The Dark Knight Rises Viral Campaign Unlocks New Trailer
In case you’ve forgotten with the constant barrage of The Avengers advertising and merchandise, there’s another highly anticipated superhero film coming out this summer called The Dark Knight Rises. Now with a new viral campaign, it is up for fans to unlock the latest trailer for Batman’s return.
At the official website of The Dark Knight Rises, people can find a binder titled “Anonymous Vigilante Investigation.” The vigilante under investigation is Bruce Wayne’s Batman. The 12-page file, jokingly titled case #TDRO7202012 (The Dark Knight Rises on July 20, 2012), explains a list of Batman’s offenses, including 6 counts of first degree murder, three cases of kidnapping and several other felonies. At the end of the file, there is a baggie containing rolls of undeveloped film. That’s where the fans come in.
Clicking on this leads to frames from the trailer. According to Forbes, regular ‘ole citizens must find Batman graffiti around the world, take a picture of it and send it to the site. Each piece of graffiti found will unlock a frame of the newest trailer. While this may seem like it will take forever, the trailer is now almost completely put together.
If you don’t have the time or patience to wait for people to geotag graffiti from around the world, the new trailer for The Dark Knight Rises is planned to be released with The Avengers, which comes out this Friday.
