The Rap Map, an Interactive Guide to Notable Rap Locations

Google Maps has been used for many awesome reasons, but none so great as the Rap Map, created by rap lyric explanation website Rap Genius.

Rap Genius took lyrics from myriad rap songs and actually set down markers on a Google map with the lyrics themselves and explanations of why that location was relevant. There are locations in Atlanta, New York, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit and much more. The markers themselves even have little headphones on them, a popular motif for hip hop (DJs specifically).

Have you ever wanted to know the exact geographic location of T.I.‘s fabled hometown, Bankhead? It’s in West Atlanta, a few miles away from Georgia Tech. How about what Bone Thugs n’ Harmony meant by the term Glock-Glock? That’s a nickname given to an intersection in their hometown notorious for drug trafficking (the name comes from their favorite gun, the 9mm glock). Even Yale University gets a shout-out on the map due to Young Jeezy’s allusion to the murder of Annie Le in one of his songs.

Check out the map here.
