Listen to a Beat Made on an NES Controller

Ah, the sweet days when NES controllers only served the function of making 8-bit Mario jump onto ledges and flatten enemies. They’ve been modified into everything from iPhone charging docks to doorbells, and today’s modification is perhaps the most fruitful: producer Side Brain made and performed a beat called “8 Buttons” entirely on an NES controller, all for YouTube’s viewing pleasure.

The video even includes screenshots of the movements that the buttons elicit. Side Brain is otherwise known as Yeuda Ben-Atar of Los Angeles, Calif. His YouTube page has videos of his live performances, as well as other songs of his performed on digital equipment.
