The History of Rock in 100 Riffs

Perhaps taking a cue from Judson Laipply’s viral YouTube video “Evolution of Dance,” Alex Chadwick of the Chicago Music Exchange filmed himself recounting the history of rock on his Stratocaster. Beginning with Chet Atkins’ 1954 hit “Mr. Sandman” and ending with “Cruel” by St. Vincent, Chadwick plays 100 iconic rock riffs, in a row, in a single take. Pretty impressive.

Other notable riffs covered include “Satisfaction” by The Rolling Stones, “Fortunate Son” by Creedence Clearwater Revival, “Give It Away” by Red Hot Chili Peppers, “I Got Mine” by The Black Keys and many more.

Check out the video below. For your convenience, each riff is identified.
