59-Year-Old New Yorker Attends Gathering of the Juggalos, Enjoys Himself
The Gathering of the Juggalos is an annual music festival put on by Psychopathic Records that primarily attracts the makeup-wearing fans of the label’s artists, most notably Insane Clown Posse. Attending can be an intimidating prospect, to say the least, especially if you aren’t exactly an ICP devotee. The fact that the festival sells shirts that read “Fuck You, I’m A Juggalo” is a pretty clear sign that the Gathering might not provide the most welcoming atmosphere to outsiders.
This didn’t stop 59-year-old Ray Mead from Jest.com, who brought his collared shirt, grey mustache and microphone to this year’s festival. Mead spent the day soaking in the Juggalo atmosphere and interviewing fans in an effort to get a better sense of what it means to be a member. The answer: “Kickin’ it.”
The most important takeaway from Ray’s excursion, however, is to never steal anything from a Juggalo. Mead stumbles upon a pack of Juggalos exacting some harsh justice on one of their own who stole some goods. They beat him up and systematically destroyed his car, divvying up the scraps to be taken home as trophies.
