In 1968, a biracial girl wrote a fan letter addressed to Star Trek’s “Mr. Spock,” detailing her struggles as an outcast due to her mixed heritage.
The letter was published in FaVE magazine and answered by Leonard Nimoy, the actor that played Spock on the popular, ‘60s sci-fi television series.
What’s awesome isn’t that Nimoy answered the girl’s letter. Celebrities do that all the time. It’s that Nimoy’s response was done thoughtfully, was encouraging and provided pretty valuable and heart-warming advice to a young fan.
Nimoy even took the time to explain how Spock overcame his own struggles with prejudice as a half human, half Vulcan.
