Brooklyn Park to be Renamed in Honor of Beastie Boy Founder Adam Yauch

According to NYPost, Brooklyn fans of the Beastie Boys campaigned to city officials to have a playground renamed in honor of the late founding member of the band, Adam Yauch. After months of pushing, officials agreed to rename Palmetto Playground the “Adam Yauch Playground.”

Councilman Steve Levin commented on the renaming saying, “Adam Yauch Playground would be a much more fitting name since he actually hung out there, and it would be a great testament to a great leader and musician.”

According to the report, officials and members of the band including Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz and Michael “Mike D” Diamond, are planning to attend a renaming ceremony Friday in Brooklyn Heights.

Last year, Yauch, a Brooklyn native, died from cancer at age 47. The Bestie Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just weeks before his death.
