Watch Patton Oswalt in The Coup's New "Magic Clap" Video

June 4, 2013  |  1:00pm

When one first hears about Patton Oswalt starring in a video for the politically minded hip-hop crew The Coup, it’d be easy to assume that you just read an ad-lib rather than an actual description for their new video, “Magic Clap.” But that’s exactly what happened, Patton Oswalt explains his “favorite song” from his “favorite band” in an awesomely spastic video.

Patton provides literal interpretations for all of Boots Riley’s swiftly spat lyrics to The Coup’s single “Magic Clap” from their latest album Sorry To Bother You. The Coup’s lyrics border on outlandish wordplay while intelligently infusing politically charged lines, but Oswalt rolls with the punches and provides an awesome three minutes of over-the-top hilarity.

Filled with references to Harry Potter, Pink Floyd and Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, this new video has excited fans of both Oswalt and The Coup alike. You may not understand what a magic clap is once it’s all over, but at least you’ll leave with a smile on your face.
