You Can Now (Sort of) Play Vinyl Through Your Smartphone
German dance label Kontor Records has created an app that kind of lets you play vinyl through your phone.
The folks over at Kontor realized that, yes, most of the music sent out to agencies ends up in the trash and, while it’s easy to overlook a cheap CD, vinyl is a little harder to just toss away. But with the lack of turntables in office settings, there’s very little point in music marketers shipping out unplayable records, regardless of quality.
Though, according to Mass Appeal, the label has developed a solution to the problem with something they call “Back to Vinyl: The Office Turntable.” Kontor mails an actual LP that comes with a 2D “record player” and QR code that works on any smartphone. The controls also work the same as a real turntable, including the listener being able to move a virtual needle to any point in the record.
If you’re wondering how this is working out for Kontor, they said that the new tactic increased targeted listener responses by 64 percent. You can check out “The Office Turntable” for yourself below.
