Idaho Man Installs Bicycle-Powered Elevator for Treehouse
YouTube user Ethan Schlussler of Sandpoint, Idaho posted a video recently showing off not only his impressive treehouse, but his amazing bicycle-operated elevator system that he’s assembled alongside it.
“I have built a tree house (though it is not finished yet) that is nearly 30 feet up a tree,” Schlussler said in the video description. “I got tired of climbing a ladder six and a half million times a day, so I made a bicycle powered elevator to solve this problem. Don’t you wish you had one?” Well, yeah. Who wouldn’t?
By the look of it, the bicycle is harnessed to an anchoring system on the ground whenever it’s stationary. If somebody wants to get up into his treehouse, they simply hop on the bike and pedal their way up while a 100-pound counterweight lowers from the bike’s attached cable system. If one pedals in reverse, the counterweight reverses direction and allows for the rider’s easy descent.
Using the bike system might look frightening if you have a fear of heights, but Schlussler’s unflinching stare at 0:23 is absolutely the face of a man with total confidence, reassuring us that we’re in good hands on his elevator bike.
