What started as a joke among a group of Polish-born-New-York-based experimental designers and developers grew to a full-fledged online store of the nerdiest undergarments around—aptly named Unerdwear. The unisex boxers are fitted in bold, absurd and most importantly geeky patterns (we’re talking robots, test tubes and 404 error geeky), and the group of women behind the unmentionables are no less nerdy.
The “metrics-driven…data nerds” believe that “Unerdwear can likely solve every single problem a nerd can face,” according to their Spring 2013 research sheet which also features some pretty compelling evidence for potential buyers.
The creators say the effort was largely “peer pressure mixed with curiosity mixed with alcohol mixed with serious scientific research,” but in early August they started officially selling their Nerdies in small batches. All profits are being donated to Rails Girls Summer of Code, a global non-profit that aims “give tools and support to women to understand technology and to build their ideas.”
