USPS to Honor Ray Charles with His Own Stamp Series
Today we can add another accolade to the late soul legend’s pedigree: Officials from the U.S. Postal Service have told the AP that they plan to add Ray Charles to its “Music Icons Forever” stamp series today. Ashanti and the Morehouse College Glee Club will perform at the Ray Charles Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, and Chaka Khan will headline an event at the Grammy Museum to commemorate the rhythm and blues singer’s addition to the series. The limited-edition stamp series has previously honored Tejano singer Lydia Mendoza and country music icon Johnny Cash.
The Charles postage stamp comes a day before the release of a new compilation album, Ray Charles Forever, which hits stores tomorrow. The album will include a previously unreleased version of the pop standard “They Can’t Take That Away from Me.”
