Watch Ben Affleck Address the Batfleck Haters on Jimmy Fallon
Hey, Internet. You can crap on Ben Affleck-as-Batman all you want. It doesn’t matter. Because he’s Batman!
The Argo actor/director took the time to answer his vocal critics when Jimmy Fallon broached the topic on Monday.
Affleck, for one, says he’s excited to take on the iconic role and inhabit the world that director Zack Snyder is building for the Man of Steel sequel, which is currently slated for a July 17, 2015 release date.
He also, however, is acutely aware of the heat he’d been receiving as the newest actor to don the cape and cowl. Just after accepting the part, the film’s producers showed him a collection of hateful Internet reactions centered around similar casting choices (here’s betting Heath Ledger’s Joker casting was among those cited).
“They send me, like—I won’t even say who they were—people who were in these movies who did a great job. And the forums were like ‘kill them!!’” he says. "You can’t say that before a movie comes out. It doesn’t matter what you think then, it matters what you think when you see the movie.”
Affleck also says the filmmakers told him to avoid going online in the days following his casting announcement. It was a warning the thick-skinned actor quickly ignored.
“They said, ‘just don’t use the Internet for a couple days’ and I’m like, ‘I handle shit.’"
