Anthony Hopkins Writes Fan Letter to Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad Crew
It’s one thing to be the critics’ darling, an audience favorite and the recipient of a boatload of Emmys. It’s quite another to earn direct praise from one of the screen’s greatest living actors.
Recently, the lovefest surrounding Breaking Bad and its stellar conclusion received some serious celebrity endorsement from Oscar-winner Anthony Hopkins. In a letter addressed to lead actor Bryan Cranston (with special mention to the entire Breaking Bad cast), the thespian claims to have just recently finished binge-watching the entire series over the past two weeks, downloading the more recent episodes from Amazon (the stars—they’re just like us!)
Needless to say, Hopkins has nothing but praise for the actor and his show, comparing it to a “great Jacobean, Shakespearian or Greek Tragedy.”
“I have never watched anything like it. Brilliant!” Hopkins writes to Cranston. “Your performance as Walter White was the best acting I have seen—ever.”
If that weren’t endearing enough, Hopkins signed off as “Tony Hopkins.”
The entire letter was posted in its an entirety by actor Steven Michael Quezada (who played DEA agent Steven Gomez) on his Facebook page. Vanity Fair subsequently ran the text yesterday.
