Macaulay Culkin Has a Pizza-Themed Velvet Underground Cover Band and It's Actually Kind of Awesome

Upon hearing the phrase “Macaulay Culkin’s pizza-themed Velvet Underground cover band,” you’re either the type of person who says, “Wait, the kid from Home Alone?” or you’ve already clicked the play button and are debating the merits of shooting up an entire jar of marinara sauce. Either way, The Pizza Underground’s incredible demo deserves a listen, if just for the one and only Kevin McCallister’s amazing kazoo solo on “Take a Bite of the Wild Slice.”

Recorded last month at Macaulay Culkin’s (presumably parent-less, booby trap-filled) house, the demo has the band serving up nine hot, pizza-inspired cuts in as many minutes, making it our go-to soundtrack for binge eating garlic knots while mourning the late Lou Reed. And while songs like “Cheese Days” might not technically be Velvet Underground covers, none of it really matters when you’re listening to laugh-out-loud lines like “I don’t do too much toppings these days.” Serious dough-fiends can also check out the band’s Tumblr, which features some of the Internet’s cheesiest Velvet Underground puns in—what else—GIF form.
