The early bird gets the literary awards—at least according to a fun infographic from the folks at Brain Pickings. They created a beautiful visualization of the sleep habits of authors versus their published output and awards amassed. Then they ranked the authors from early risers to late sleepers, and the results might surprise you.
While it’s important to keep in mind the old psychology adage “correlation does not equal causation,” there are still some interesting trends to be found. For instance, the late risers appear to be more prolific yet earn less accolades. So if you’re aspiring to be the next Ernest Hemingway or Flannery O’Connor, you might want to set your alarm for 6 a.m.
