This Smart Bulb Still Works When The Power Goes Out

Power outages are always a speedy way to be reminded of how essential light and energy is to our day-to-day lives. In particular, being thrust into darkness in the evening or night because the power is out, is both annoying and unsettling. Enter SmartCharge, an intelligent LED light bulb that’s set to vastly improve such frustrating situations.

SmartCharge is a light bulb that continues to work, even during a power outage. Using intelligent Grid & Switch Sensor technology, the bulb can sense when a power outage has occurred, working via its in-built battery while it waits for the power to be restored. It’s a very simple idea but one that could change a lot for those who regularly suffer from power issues.

The light bulb looks and works just like an ordinary bulb meaning there’s no need for extra wiring or a control box. Flicking the power switch works just the same as it always did, it just offers the benefit of also working when the power has failed.

Even better, thanks to its intelligent design, the SmartCharge bulb cuts electricity usage for lighting by up to 90%, saving you money and helping the environment too. Rated for up to 40,000 hours or 25 years of life, it’s very efficient. The battery used to keep it working during a power outage is a regular Li-Ion rechargeable battery offering around 3 years of life before it needs to be replaced.

Funded via a Kickstarter campaign, SmartCharge Bulbs are available from $35 for one or $55 for two. The campaign doesn’t have long to run though, so get in fast to try this exciting new technology!
