MARK: oh

my

god

BWE

i think this is the greatest thing ever posted on the internet

KATE: is that the chipmunk voice, i can't tell what she's saying

MARK: it's a classic michael w. smith song

KATE: i get him mixed up with steven curtis chapman.

you should hear the sound coming out the other side of your headphones right now

MARK: hahaha. it just slays me cause i used to do the exact same thing in the mirror

KATE: now THAT is funny

MARK: here's the original video, equally amazing Secret Ambition

80s american christianity is absolutely crazy

KATE: cool drums. is he dressed up as jesus?

oh wait that's not him, that’s actually jesus

MARK: no, he's just chillin with the boots, vest and mullet

jesus apparently grew up in orange county based on the amazing amount of product in his hair

KATE: no wonder he's so popular.

the bible times people are so MATCHY

does michael w smith still record

MARK: yeah, but now he just records other peoples' worship music

here's another good one from a little later: Place In This World

KATE: oh i've heard this, delilah plays it. i just didn't know who it was

MARK: nice. yeah it's perfect for her

KATE: it pretty much embodies everything she stands for. i love how the note for this video is "we have a place in this world"

MARK: "seriously guys, here's the proof"

KATE:  i thought his place in this world was gonna be about 80s jesus but it turned out to be a woman.

MARK: yeah, he caught a little flack on this album because it was a less jesus-centered

KATE: i'm gonna email andy to tell him that's what we're dancing to when we get married

now i am watching friends are friends forever

so far it looks like the blair witch project: Friends

MARK: i saw him on that tour!

KATE: oh my gosh you are so lucky

MARK: this one may be better for your wedding Here For You

KATE: “michael writes on energy” what does that even MEAN

MARK: but seriously, "i will be here for you" would be perfect for your first dance.

i would even be willing to learn it and play it for you guys

KATE: we can plan a choreographed dance

andy would never. i will have to rig a bet so i win and that's my prize

call my name and my heart will hear! that's awesommmme

MARK: "somewhere in the night, i'll be standing by" he's such a heart throb

oh man this is his song for all the ladies that are self conscious about how they look: Cross of Gold

this may be the pinnacle

just imagine me in that crowd. 12 yr old me

KATE: i don't really like this cross of gold song, it's a little too rock n roll for me

i prefer the ballads

i think he's doing sign language with his audience

MARK: you might like this one: Need Me

it's kind of racy though

KATE: did he say somebody need me to be the blue in their gray?

MARK: oh yes

KATE: i don't think there's blue in gray

i think it's just black and white

MARK: haha just for the record, i was waaay over him by this point in his career

KATE: he has two women in his house! he is trying to have a threesome!

MARK: he's just looking for the right one to open the door

KATE: i wonder if it's gonna be the brunette or the blonde

MARK: i think he's talking about the sky, he'll be blue INSTEAD of gray

it's just kind of complicated, not typical for normal pop

KATE: wow you are good at interpreting his deep lyrics

now i am trying this is your time

this is fantastic! have you seen this one: Time

MARK: wow, no

woah, was he filming that girl?! that is so meta and artsy

KATE: yeah it's pretty edgy he used an old timey camera

the comment for this video: It is time to worship the Lord. And this time with this great singer that I love, michael W Smith. what can I say? I just love the guy. Sing with him and let us praise the Lord.

MARK: hahaha close your eyes, right there at your computer

KATE: now i am watching how to say goodbye: Goodbye

it's about his daughter growing up

MARK: hmm, another old timey camera

KATE: he loves old cameras i'm gonna buy one on ebay and send it to him

MARK: he uses the camera imagery so well

what is it with christian dudes singing about being sad their daughters are growing up?

KATE: whatever mark, you will be listening to that song on repeat one day

MARK: i know, i already had a "butterfly kisses" moment with lily the other day

i was like "you used to only sleep 3 hours and now you sleep tennnnn!!!"

KATE: incidentally, this comment:

Great song! It reminds me a little of the Bob Carlisle hit, "Butterfly Kisses". The subjects of both songs are pretty similar (if not identical, actually). Greetings to all Smitty fans! This is Your time!

love this video

it makes me cry it comes at the right time for you Michael since Whitney is getting married soon.

good luck to her and to you and your family.

Just another reason I will always treasure Smitty's music. It always touches my heart and brings me strength.

MARK: i'm going to start ending my emails with "this is your time!"

KATE: THEY CALL HIM SMITTY DID YOU KNOW THIS

MARK: yes, i do

he even calls himself smitty in his earlier, more hip songs
