PaMaDoCoBloNaBloPoMoMo 2008, Day 24: Spawn of She She faces the facts
Over the weekend, I offered up the seven best things about my new favorite song and my own picks for top ten albums of the year, pushing me two days closer to my goal. Then, this morning, our website suffered an apparent teeth-gnashing overload and pooped its pants. Uh-oh! I spent the downtime attempting to read each and every single "S"-named blog on November's NaBloPoMo blogroll. I got a few dozen in and then gave up, mostly out of boredom-induced exhaustion (somehow, blogs that begin with "S" seem to far more consistently embody the conundrum of tedious, icky reality than any other letter). But also, I'd found She She.
She She is penned by an un-named mom from up Vermont way, whose very young son Owen recently came face-to-face with the harsh realities of capitalist economics. After saving up exactly enough of his own money to buy a toy, he was shocked to be slapped with an additional $0.77 at the cash register. Apparently, he was inconsolable and expressed his rage in a series of drawings which his mother promptly posted online.
I love the percieved adult indifference to his financial woes expressed in that final frame: "The prices are @*3%!!!" "Oh." Yep. Welcome to LIFE, little guy.
Owen, one day you might think it's weird that your mom wrote about your childhood on the Internet. But perhaps, when you see those drawings, you will understand it's because you were just too funny not to share with the world.
