We recently asked Rosie Thomas to send us dispatches from her latest batch of tour dates. She ended up being too busy having fun with her pals Denison Witmer and Sufjan Stevens (also on the tour), but she managed to get another one of her friends, comedic mastermind, Sheila Saputo, to send us some words and photos.

April 23, 2007 - Los Angeles, Calif.

Dear Delores,

Sorry my journal entries are behind a bit, but I have very little Internet access on the road. (What happens on the road stays on the road, I know!) I love it here in sunny L.A. Today I got a map of the stars and located Leo’s house. I sat outside of it for hours eating hot dogs and writing him love letters and screaming his name!! I cried three times because I felt so close to him. I laid out for a bit and forgot to take my glasses off. Third degree burns again around my eyes...sucks. I held sand in the palm of my hand and tried to count it all...so much! Screamed “Shark!” while I was swimming in the ocean, it was hilarious!

Hug ‘em if you got ‘em,
Sheila

Dear De De,

Shy town? I don’t think so! People are so brave here! Ate two Chicago hot dogs (the works!) and nearly peed my pants, from the back. Show was incredible tonight. I was so nervous but I kept keeping on. Just talked away about friendship and stuff. Denny wasn’t SHY tonight either, looks like our friendship is beginning to spell....RELATIONSHIP!!! (He keeps telling me not to tell anyone. He’s taking it slow or whatever, how respectful.) Cried while Rosie played tonight, her music is soooo depressing.

Move like the wind is at your back at all times,
Sheila

Dear De De,

Tour’s hard. I’ve been eating hot dogs everyday at truck stops and have gotten terrible IBS. Rang the Liberty bell again tonight, sang “The Streets of Philadelphia” and kept calling everyone “brother.” Slept
in the van tonight because Denny and Rosie told me they needed someone to watch over the car all night in case of break-ins. I was like a watch guard. I covered my face in black marker so I looked invisible. (Sucked getting that off the next day. Wow, it really hurt.) Drank about 20 Red Bulls to keep me awake all night. It was freezing but I was so alert. Denny and I made out again after he played. He was like slurring his words and stuff, but it was so real.

Dance like no one’s watching,
Sheila

April 11, 2007 - New York, N.Y.

Dear De De,

The Big Apple or Big Dipper whatever. I was freaking out all day. Running up and down Times Square just freaking out trying to find auditions. Took a cab ride up and down 42nd St. for about an hour. Just held my head out the window screaming, “I’m the next Phantom!” hoping that some director would hear it and be intimidated. Not making a dime on this tour and man, they have me loading in all the gear and loading out all the gear every night while they party. So awesome, I’m really doing it! Hard finding places to stay every night. Tonite, I might just ride the subway till the sun comes up or whatever. Some real characters on the subway, it’ll give me tons to journal about! Last time I rode the subway all night, I met this man named Jimmie, and he just yelled at me for about three hours until he puked and passed out and I just held him the entire time and sang, “Start spreadin’ the news!” Real life is awesome.

Never let ‘em see you sweat,
Sheila
