Dear Diary

Welcome to Dear Diary, where we ask some of our favorite artists to let us peer into their respective worlds while they travel and record.

We recently asked Rosie Thomas to send us dispatches from her latest batch of tour dates. She ended up being too busy having fun with her pals Denison Witmer and Sufjan Stevens (also on the tour), but she managed to get another one of her friends, comedic mastermind, Sheila Saputo, to send us some words and photos. This is her final dispatch.

April 25, 2007 - On the road home…

Dear Delores,

Long drive back home. Getting tour blues already and it’s only been a day. Miss Denny so much. Cried like a baby when we dropped him off at the airport today. Didn’t think I’d be able to let him go without a fight, so we wrestled a little. He won. Wrote him six love letters for the plane ride, one for every hour. I didn’t expect tour to be this hard. It’s so emotional! I miss the audience, my face in lights, flirting hard, making it, cheese whiz, pumping gas, “tour talk,” sleeping on floors, making friends with...EVERYONE. I miss Denny Wit. I miss applause. I miss “owning the stage.” Rosie touches peoples’ hearts; I’d like to think I touch their funny bones a good amount. Freedom! (Gained about 15 on tour.)

Keep on rockin’ in the free world,
Sheila
