Calexico - 11/21/08 - Chicago, IL
Apparently there's been some dangerous drives these past two days through the fresh batch of snow and ice. However, Jason, our driver, has everything under control.
Chicago is a busy day. Paul and I wake and meet up with label Touch and
Go/Quarterstick Records. Everyone seems in good spirits but before we
can hang out much longer we are whisked away to do a radio record spin
session with WXRT's Nic Tremulis for the Eclectic Company show. This
ends up being a lot of fun and we all wish it could keep on going. But
alas, sound check awaits. We power through sonic duties and rehearse
the song "Slowness" with singer Janet Bean.
Corey Rusk of
TGREC swings by and takes a station wagon load of us to some incredibly
tasty wood oven pizza and antipasti. Back at the Metro we meet Doug
McCombs to go over a few songs. His part on "Red Blooms" tonight is
stellar. It proves extremely difficult to pull away from the many
friends here in Chicago. Perhaps it's time to do a residency here next
time.
