We’ve had our eyes on Suckers for a minute. In October, we named the Brooklyn group one of The 10 Best Bands We Discovered at CMJ 2009, comparing them to Talking Heads and saying, “There’s something wonderfully off about this quartet’s soaring three-part harmonies and manic rhythms.”
In internet time, it feels like Suckers have been around forever. When I mentioned to a New Yorker buddy how the band’s weird indie rock (in the vein of fellow Brooklynites Yeasayer and TV on the Radio) was one of the highlights of my first day at SXSW 2010, he smiled and said, “Yeah, they play back home every other weekend. We’re all kind of tired of them.”
Jaded friends aside, maybe Suckers just need to get out more. Luckily, according to the band’s MySpace, it looks like they’re going to do just that. Following a few more SXSW shows, Suckers will take to the road for a couple months leading up to their full-length debut on Frenchkiss June 8. Don’t miss them if they’re coming to your town.
