Runnur: Fanny Pack for the 21st Century

| | Comments (1)
A glance at the leaflet for the Runnur, a glorified fanny pack for the 21st century, hints that the product offers far more than multiple pockets.  Along with a nylon strap for valuables, the wearer also receives an immediate nonchalant air of hipness, as indicated by the photos of a smiling California girl, a skateboarder, and a girl on a bike, all confident in the style and security offered by their Runnur toting system. The construction is simple: it's a basic black strap sewn in a pocket-covered loop, made to be worn from left shoulder (kept in place with non-skid material) to right hip.

Lost LOST Ads

Hot Meteor design recently posted a series of old Dharma Initiative advertisements culled from the pages of various '70s and '80s magazines. They're perfectly executed and reminiscent of Watchmen's fantastic viral campaign. Those jumpsuits would be really nice (and totally creepy) for doing yard work.

Mark Weaver Art

Our friend and former Paste designer Mark Weaver recently started selling screen prints, and we think they're pretty awesome. He only has a couple currently for sale, including ol' skullbeard above, but we're looking forward to seeing many more. You can buy them here, but you'll also want to check out his website, where he presides over all kinds of skulls and animal/people.

Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon designs for Urban Outfitters

Kim Gordon’s fashion line Mirror/Dash makes its Urban Outfitters debut on Monday, marking this month's second-best celebrity-fashion-line announcement.

“We’re actually trying to do something a little less trend oriented, a little more classic, she told the New York Times, “that might appeal to someone say who used to shop at Urban but wants something slightly less young looking.”

Michelle Obama's a cover girl

Mrs. Obama’s on Vogue’s March cover! The photo’s by Annie Leibovitz and the dress is by Jason Wu (he designed her white gown for the inauguration too).

I like the simplicity of the cover and the way her magenta dress pops, but I expected something a little more striking. Rachael thinks it looks like a Land’s End catalog.

Michelle Obama's hairstylist to star in reality show

Michelle Obama’s hairstylist is getting his own reality show!

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Johnny Wright, who styled Mrs. Obama’s hair for the Democratic National Convention and her upcoming appearance on the cover of Vogue
magazine, has signed a deal with 44 Blue, a company that has produced reality shows for Style Network and A&E. He'll star in a docusoap or makeover series—I don't know exactly what docusoap means, but I don't like the sound of it.

Happy Inauguration Day, or as Josh likes to call it, Coronation Day! If you need a superficial break from politics, check out the Mrs. O blog for updates on First Lady Michelle Obama's fashion statements.

Orla Kiely designs housewares line for Target

According to Apartment Therapy New York, Orla Kiely has designed a housewares collection for Target, set to be in stores the first week of Feb. 2009 This is hugely exciting news for everyone at Paste who love flowers and pears and aprons and serving trays (so, basically, pretty much just Kate and me).

Designs by Lolita

My mother is crafty. And one of the holiday crafts she did with the kids this year was making hand-painted wine glasses (my four-year-old son now wants to drink his milk out of them every day). It seems like this is part of a larger trend, as glassware painter Lolita has a line of pilnser, champagne and cocktail glasses for every occasion you could imagine, including the Santa pilsner glass with the "Who Needs Milk" message hidden inside. designsbylolita.com

Save Handmade

My friend Lesley just told me about the new Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act, which will require manufacturers to invest in expensive outside testing and labeling to prove that toys are safe. Seems fair, but the act will put out of business thousands of toy makers and independent sellers who make small quantities of super-safe products for babies and kids.
