Pearl Jam Music Video Raises Awareness, Funds for Ocean Preservation

The video for “Amongst the Waves,” the third single from Pearl Jam’s Backspacer, went public a couple weeks ago, on the same day as the band’s Oceans webpage. Both are meant to raise awareness about the need for ocean preservation, a cause that Pearl Jam feels passionate about.

“If we don’t consider the fragility and finite capacity of our planet’s oceans, we may destroy our most precious resource,” guitarist Stone Gossard said in a statement. “Our ocean will only survive if the world agrees to sustain her.”

To help support the cause, Pearl Jam is donating proceeds from iTunes sales of “Amongst the Waves” to Conservation International’s Marine Programs. For the next six months, Universal Music/Island Records will also donate proceeds from the international sale of the video.
