On Thursday evening, an all-star benefit concert was held in Tucson, Ariz. to pay tribute to victims of the January shooting rampage.
Jackson Browne, Alice Cooper, David Crosby and Graham Nash led the benefit show, with Sam Moore, Keb’ Mo’ and multiple local artists performing as well. The show, organized by Cooper and Browne, was to raise money for a foundation to promote civility. The performance and foundation served as a response to the shooting tragedy that left six people dead, as well as 13 others wounded, including Democratic U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
The proceeds from the concert will go to The Fund for Civility, Respect and Understanding. The fund was created by Ron Barber, who said some proceeds will be used to combat bullying in schools and to pay for a public awareness program for mental illness.
On his website, Browne said the nonprofit foundation would support “individuals and families affected by the Jan. 8 shooting in Tucson, and will promote civility and respect in public discourse, schools, and the community.”
The concert took place at the Tucson Convention Center, which lies across from the federal courthouse where Loughner pleaded not guilty to the 49-counts against him on Wednesday.
