My family has always had a strange obsession with naming pets. When we get a new dog or cat, we schedule a meeting, discuss the particular pet’s personality, brainstorm names, write them down, examine the pros and cons one by one, then vote. The best one we’ve come up with so far is Ignatius (pictured above as an elf), a beagle named after the famous Ignatius J. Reilly and the apple of my dad's eye.
Like his namesake, Ignatius is loud, destructive, incredibly self-centered and, somehow, captivating. Enjoy this list of eleven more funny pet names from around the office.(Ignatius, if you’re reading this, STOP BARKING!)
1. Happy Tuxedo
When he was a mere three years old, multimedia producer Kevin named his dog for his wagging tail and tuxedo-like color pattern.
2. Token
Deputy editor Jason met this black pug puppy (puggy?) in Dublin. He’s named after the character of same name on South Park.
3. Dr. Pickles
Controller Mary does the books at a doggie daycare, and when this guy’s parents pick him up, they say, “Paging Dr. Pickles.”
4. Puppy
Assistant editor Rachael’s boyfriend’s friend’s family cat was ironic before irony was cool.
5. Arthur Scarborough
Production coordinator Mark’s dog goes by Arthur.
6. Kitty Bob Sanders
Intern Kim’s sister’s cat is named after the Colts’ safety, Bob Sanders, "for his ability to pounce at a moment's notice and his kitty ninja abilities.”
7. Mr. Shorty
Mr. Shorty is a basset hound from South Georgia that managing editor Nick Marino met while interviewing blueswoman Precious Bryant.
8. Septimus Sisyphus
Intern Henry Freedland’s friend’s turtle was named “Septimus because, like the character from Mrs. Dalloway, this turtle would climb atop the tallest point he could find to jump off. Sisyphus because no matter how many times this achieved nothing, he tried over and over again.”
9. Meatball 5
Associate editor Steve LaBate’s friend’s cat just looked like a Meatball 5, even though there was no Meatball 1, 2, 3 or 4.
10. Felicity Gilmore
Intern Yvonne named her dog at the height of a WB obsession.
11. Somewhere
Intern Loren named her dog after a UK artists' collective.
What's your favorite pet name?

CHIVALRY TIMBERS:
Chivalry was named as such in the case that he dies under the care of somebody else... then I could blame them for the fall of Chivalry. And Timbers... well, because he kind of looks like a pirate.
Mr. Puddles? I have Snausages!
I had two pet snails for a long time named Super Nintendo and Stegosaurus Time. They died, though, and were replaced by Justin and Diane Rehm. Those two eventually died, too, and now there's just the betta...Superfudge.
Super Nintendo and Stegosaurus Time are some of the best names for pets I've heard in a long while
My cat is called Bootsy PFunk Collins.
I picked this name because I felt that the cat was cool enough to pull it off. He has his own facebook group.
