2. The Simpsons - Danny Elfman
An oldie, but a goodie, "The Simpsons Theme" was composed by Danny Elfman in 1989, and its orchestral zip has become the joke with 427 (and counting) punchlines—everytime Homer's clan heads for the couch. It's been nominated for an Emmy and covered by Green Day (for the feature film last year) and has aged nicely these last 20 years.



1. Doctor Who - Ron Grainer
When the sci-fi series returned in 2005, it came with a tweak to the original theme song, but at its core is Ron Grainer's pioneering electronic composition brought to life by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop back in 1963. It's a good thing we like it, too. Paste music sales director Nate Douglas has had it as his ring tone for months.
