Brad Bird not only wrote and directed the most perfect animated film of all time, he also voices the film's best character, Edna—the world famous fashion designer who's bored with making clothes for super models ("Nothing super about them... spoiled, stupid little stick figures with poofy lips who think only about themselves") and jumps at the chance to outfit Mr. Incredible when he privately comes out of retirement. It captures suburban ennui as well as American Beauty, while being the best pre-Marc Forster Bond film in years. Brad Bird should be a household name.

Let me be the first to give you shit for no Triplets of Belleville!
Four Pixar movies, and none from Disney's golden age of animation? Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first (and still the best) animated movie, should have been number 1.
I know that in terms of animation the movie The Pagemaster isn't all that great. But what makes the movie amazing is that it encourages kids to read. Not to mention the characters are so memorable that even my 85 year old grandmother remembers their quirky personas.
Although I agree entirely about The Incredibles being #1. Such an awesome movie...
If you haven't, take a look at The Adventures of Prince Achmed. The first animated feature may not be the best, but it's certainly incredible and looks like absolutely nothing else.
I'm guessing you're not going for short subjects (Chuck Jones!) or claymation (Nick Park!)?
And have you seen Waltz with Bashir yet?
No, I'm looking forward to seeing Waltz With Bashir. And Despereaux. And yes, it was hard not being able to fit Snow White, Pinocchio, Dumbo and all the other Disney classics on the list. I also have a soft spot for Lady and The Tramp since that video was the only thing on TV that my first daughter liked to watch as a toddler.
I wouldn't have been able to leave out Golden-Age Disney, but I do respect your ballsiness. Agree with your Lion King assessment. And I LOVE that you have all three Brad Bird features here -- as I've written (http://mdunaway.wordpress.com/2008/11/06/2008-dunnies/), I don't know when any director has EVER had three stronger movies, animated or not, to begin a career.
Completely agrees with The Incredibles as one of the best animated film ever!

Maybe this list should have been "the 10 best animated family films". Why no mention of the brilliant 'Persepolis'?
