How did people get book deals before there were blogs? I don't know, but that seems to be the way to go about it these days. Some of my favorite bloggers have either wrapped up manuscripts or inked new deals in 2008, and I'm excited for the chance to give my Google Reader a break and read their words and see their pictures on the page for a change.
Dooce
Heard of someone “getting dooced”? You can thank Heather B. Armstrong for that. She made the news a few years ago after getting fired from her job in California for talking about her boss and other coworkers on her blog, begetting some new slang in the process. Now living in Utah with her husband, daughter and a baby in the works, she's a full-time blogger-- and, for my money, one of the funniest damn people on the Internet. Not sure when this one's coming out, but the manuscript is done. Here's hoping it encompasses everything great about the blog: The exacting wit, the wild irreverence, the fierce loyalty to her family, the tangents, the dogs. Oh, and the PERFECTLY TIMED use of caps lock.
Fine Lines
Lizzie Skurnik's weekly exploration of the best and worst of Young Adult literature is one of my favorite features over at Jezebel. I read a ton when I was a “young adult” so some of the reviews are a total nostalgia trip--- A Wrinkle In Time, OMG-- but some are completely new to me, and some so bizarre that I can't believe I grew up without them. Can't wait to catch up further with the book.

So glad that you guys menitoned Kate. She's amazing.
