This blog had only been around for, like, twenty-seven minutes when it snagged its book deal-- but why wait? The premise is so simple, so infinitely hilarious and so obvious, it's hard to believe no one had pulled it off before: Readers submit funny, unintentionally or otherwise, emails from their mothers. If you see any posts referencing Amy Winehouse, that might be from mine! (Just kidding, Mom. Your secret's safe with me.) The book based on the blog, Love, Mom: Poignant, Goofy, Brilliant Messages from Home is coming in March 2009.

What Did You Buy Today?
Kate Bingaman-Burt's illustrations of her daily purchases populate her zine, What Did You Buy Today?, and a blog of the same name. Her simple, ink-on-paper sketches elevate office supplies, socks, coffee, concert tickets, houseplants and more from mundane to charming (and she has pretty good taste in music, too). She just snagged the book contract, so it won't be out for a while, but that gives me a chance to brush up on my own sketching skills before I make a copy a daily purchase of my own.
