Three Christmas Songs That Don't Suck

elf_christmas_will_ferrell.jpgYeah, yeah, I know—that title is a bit much. Call me a scrooge, but I just don't get very excited about holiday songs and movies. I actually love this time of year, but do I really have to experience it through my speakers and my television screen? I think not. But while watching Elf (a movie I will make an exception for, along with National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation) the other day with some friends, I realized there are a handful of Christmas songs that will always be truly awesome to me. Here are three of them:

Elvis Presley - "Blue Christmas"
The backing vocals alone on this song are better than 87.3% of all Christmas songs ever written ever, and that's a documented fact.

Stevie Wonder - "What Christmas Means to Me"
This one has been in countless movies, so you've almost definitely heard it several times, but did you know that the song was written in part by Anna Gordy Gaye (big sis to Motown honcho Berry Gordy/first wife of Marvin Gaye)?

Mariah Carey - "All I Want for Christmas is You"
While discussing this song on instant messenger the other day with a friend, the conversation devolved into us basically saying over and over, "OMG, her voice!" She really does have some insane pipes, and this wonderful song wouldn't be the same without them. Also, because fun facts are fun, according to Wikipedia (take it with a grain of salt, as I couldn't find confirmation), this became the top-selling holiday ringtone of all time in 2006.

Are you a fellow non-fan of holiday music with few exceptions? Perhaps you want to argue that there are actually tons of other great, festive tunes? Or maybe you just really enjoy listening to Paste's holiday radio station and have to talk about how it's made your whole dang season? Regardless, I'd like to hear from you in the comments.
