1. In N Out Burger
Some of the Paste crew is ready to declare the Five Guys burger
superior to In N Out, but I'm not ready to hand over the crown just
yet. The In N Out still reigns supreme.
2. Zaxby's Chicken Fingers
Moist (OK, greasy), plump and, most importantly, recognizable strips of white meat with dipping sauce made of crack cocaine.
3. McDonald's Fries
Yes, they might take decades to decompose and they might turn the
consistency of Crisco 10 minutes after they're out of the fryer, but
oh, those initial 10 minutes of glory.

4. Varsity Onion Rings
A small but famous chain out of Atlanta will greet you with "What'll you have?" The correct answer always includes onion rings.

5. Chick-fil-A Lemonade
The perfect balance of sweet and sour in a cup that'll keep it cold for hours.
6. Wendy's Chocolate Frosty
The only way Wendy's fries are edible are as a delivery system for the yummy goodness that is a Wendy's frosty.
7. Taco Bell Cinnamon Twists
If your unfortunate enough to eat them after Taco Bell burrritos—or fortunate enough to have just gorged yourself on the above meal—they're a wonderfully airy way to finish.

The Perfect Seven-Course Multi-Fast-Food-Chain Meal
I generally hate fast food. And I'm really not a fan of chains. I like my food slow, local or homemade. But then there's the chicken finger plate from Zaxby's. And the chicken biscuit at Chick-fil-a. And as much as I hate their burgers, man I love those McDonald's fries. So for all the summer roadtripping we have left to do, here's a guide to what's good on the go.

Five Guys has NOTHING on In N Out!
My, my, what a narrow, provincial little list. Varsity? Come on, how many of your readers can eat there on a given day? MAJOR CORRECTIONS: Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers beats Zaxby's in 98 out of 100 consumer taste tests (OK,I made that one up, but it gets you in the direction of the truth). And Wendy's fries rank No. 1 (that's NUMBER ONE) among the big fast-food chains, according to the science labs of Consumer Reports (did not make this up). Eating McDonald's fries is akin to eating pick-up sticks. Eating Wendy's fries is like getting something substantial and potato-y, says CR. I agree.
The Varsity is the WORST. Also, Burger King's chicken fries are my kryptonite. I can't even go to the food court at work for fear that I will gorge myself to death on them in one sitting.
In N Out will never be replaced!
I went to In N Out Burger when I was in California and was not impressed at all. But I completely agree with the Varsity union rings and the Chick-fil-A lemonade.
This is perhaps the best blog I've read in a while: "Value (the) Meal" http://stopcorporateabuse.org/value-meal
I'm a Cali girl but I've got to admit Five Guys burgers beat In N Out any day. I feel a little sad admitting that... Sorry.
Never ever attempt to do this entire thing in one go. We did it over two hours and I felt like I was going to do haha, but I'll be damned if it wasn't delicious.
What a joke. Way to pick geo-local chains that don't translate nationally. That "roadtrip" hitting all those places would either take 2 weeks or requires teleportation.
Suggested Revisions to Your List:
1) I've had both, Five Guys wins hands down. No question. Just because the rest of the country doesn't have In-N-Out doesn't make it the best.
2) McDs fries? Really? How about Arby's curly fries? Or Sonic Tots? High availability doesn't mean high quality.
3) Chick-fil-A lemonade over their Sweet Tea? Also, their tenders, nuggets & chicken biscuits should be on the list
4) Two words: cherry limeade (Sonic)
Honorable mention: Waffle House hashbrowns (covered, chunked, peppered and topped)
