There’s been a slew of movie sequel news lately, and it’s got us pondering whether these follow-ups will be any good.
More often than not, sequels pale in comparison to the original, but every once in a while, movies come along and take their respective series to new heights, leaving the first installment in the dust. Movies like these:
10. Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan
Easily the most emotional movie of the Star Trek series, this 1982 flick brought about new interest in the classic sci-fi series. Plus, it inspired generations of fanboys to throw their fists in the air and yell, “KHHHHAAAAAAANNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!”
9. For A Few Dollars More
Sergio Leone’s follow-up to the 1964 spaghetti Western A Fistful of Dollars featured a stellar Clint Eastwood performance, an incredible score by Ennio Morricone and this memorable duel scene.
8. The Empire Strikes Back
The best chapter in the Star Wars series contains an epic battle between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, culminating with one of the most iconic movie lines of all time: “I am your father.”
7. Evil Dead 2
This campy horror classic from Sam Raimi dialed up the comedy and the cartoonish violence, all the while turning Bruce Campbell into a cult hero.
6. Goldfinger
Sean Connery, the best Bond? Check. An awesome villain whose henchman can decapitate you with his hat? Check. Killer Shirley Bassey theme song? Check. Pussy Galore, the ultimate in hilariously-named Bond girls? Check. Is there any doubt that the third James Bond movie is the best?

How did D2: The Mighty Ducks Are Back not make the list?
It took everything established by the first movie and raised the stakes even higher. Plus it gave us all the knucklepuck, the flying V, Gordon Bombay's origin story and single most malicious beach volleyball popping ever captured on film.
What about Terminator 2?
Holiday Road was the theme for the original Vacation movie, not just the sequel. Mele Kalikimaka might be the better choice. Just sayin'.
