Five Songs to Soundtrack Your Thanksgiving Dinner

November 23, 2010  |  10:00am

Watching those calories this holiday season? Perhaps you’ve run out of eating pants? Ease up, reader! Thanksgiving is the time for food, and we’ve got you covered on music. Below, we’ve created the soundtrack to your Thanksgiving dinner. Cue up the songs below, get cozy-sprawled on your living room floor, and let the tryptophan take over.

“Linger” by the Cranberries
Really, any song from these Irish rockers would do the trick, but considering the easy approach most recommended for stomach-stuffing, “Linger” rings most encouraging.

“Mashed Potato Time” by Dee Dee Sharp
While this song may best applied to Thanksgiving spreads, we happen to think that Mashed Potato Time could happen at any time.

“Green Onions” by Booker T & the MG’s
The fact that this song seemingly appears in every movie set in the ‘60s and based around football makes it all the more fitting for Turkey Day trimmings.

“El Scorcho” by Weezer
This sing-along classic scores a spot on the list considering the admittedly-dubious possibilities of misinterpreting the title as a cautionary tale for allowing food to cool before eating it. Plus: “I’ll bring home the turkey if you bring home the bacon.”

“American Pie” by Don McLean
Yeah, sorry, but face it: Any pie you make or partake of this Thursday is American. Never forget. Something else you shouldn’t forget? The Cool Whip.
