A recent update to Notch’s fan favorite Minecraft introduced music note blocks to the game, allowing for players to construct giant machines that play intricate melodies. Several note-block virtuosos have taken to Youtube, uploading their melodies for the world to enjoy.

The creations are labors of love for Minecraft players, taking hours to create a song that lasts minutes. Two approaches are used in the game, one involving constructing an elaborate machine that plays the song automatically, where the other requires the player to tap the blocks individually. The latter results in a less polyphonic sound, but can be edited together into a layered video, creating a similar result.

We recently featured a Minecraft construction of Jonathan Coulton’s “Still Alive” as our Awesome of the Day.

Now check out seven more awesome songs, recreated in the world of Minecraft.
