15 Great 'Hallelujah' Covers

“Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen is one of the greatest songs ever written. So it’s no surprise that leonardcohenfiles.com currently lists 2,040 covers of Leonard Cohen songs. And that doesn’t count all the YouTubers posting their “Cover of Jeff Buckley’s ‘Hallelujah.’”

15. Amanda Palmer
Her voice may not be perfect, but she sounds on the verge of tears, so it’s understandable.

14. Beirut
Only person to do it using a playing card.

13. Willie Nelson
Nelson’s warble fits the mood of the song perfectly, allowing him to sound vulnerable over the swell of some steel guitar.

12. Bono
Bono completely changes the song, turning it into a spoken-word electronica… thing. The work isn’t wonderful, but it’s probably the most original take on the song.

11. Casey Pitel
Ignore the dizzying camera shots in this video and focus on the great voice.

10. Alexandra Burke w/ Elton John
The former X-Factor champion teams up for Elton John live for this crowd-pleaser.
