“Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen is one of the greatest songs ever written. So it’s no surprise that leonardcohenfiles.com currently lists 2,040 covers of Leonard Cohen songs. And that doesn’t count all the YouTubers posting their “Cover of Jeff Buckley’s ‘Hallelujah‘."
15. Amanda Palmer
Her voice may not be perfect, but she sounds on the verge of tears, so it’s understandable.
14. Beirut
Only person to do it using a playing card.
13. Willie Nelson
12. Bono
Bono completely changes the song, turning it into a spoken-word electronica
thing. The work isn’t wonderful, but it’s probably the most original take on the song.
11. Casey Pitel
10. Alexandra Burke w/ Elton John

it is the AMAZING Matt Morris that makes JT's cover of this beautiful song so special! (not to mention Charlie Sexton on guitar)
Can I just say that this column UNFORTUNATELY reminded me of the most inappropriate use of Hallelujah in a motion picture? We all know that I am talking about the Watchmen. Yuck.

Glad to see Jeff Buckley at #1. I'd really wish no one would ever cover this song ever again.
Great list! Unfortunately, you left out what should have been #2 on your list...Jason Castro's cover of Hallelujah was hauntingly beautiful, and was a fitting ending to the internationally acclaimed movie: Amar a Morir.
