5 Things You Should Know About 3D Printing

The future we’ve dreamed about is just one step closer with the growing popularity of the 3D printer. Since its invention in 1983 by Chuck Hull at 3D Systems Corporation, companies have formed all over the world to create more innovative 3D printers for home or commercial use.

Despite the media buzz about 3D printers, they are still mainly used by hobbyists, designers and medical professionals, and many consumers do not know the facts about stereolithography. Fortunately, we’ve researched the five things you should know about 3D printing, and why it might be a worthy investment.

5. 3D printers can be smaller than your average desktop printer
Companies like 3D Systems, Stratasys, Robox and many other companies have created sleek and stylish 3D printers that are smaller than most paper printers and can easily sit on a desk or anywhere that is convenient in your home.

4. 3D printers can produce just about anything
If you have a craving for chocolate or if you are in need of an organ transplant, you’re in luck. 3D printing companies originally sold plastic ink cartridges but now have ink made out of sugar, chocolate, sand, ceramic, metal materials, and even living cells to manufacture an infinite amount of creations.

3. The prices of 3D printers are dropping
When 3D printers were first invented, there were a very limited amount of printers being produced, but now, there are printing companies forming all over the world, creating more 3D printers to make all kinds of gadgets. The cheapest 3D printer is currently called the Peachy Printer and is made by Rylan Grayston from Rinnovated Designs in Canada. His printer is primarily used for small craft models, and if you’re a designer looking to produce many copies of your products, you’ll most likely spend a larger chunk of money on a commercial 3D printer.

2. 3D printers are relatively easy to use
3D printers connect to wifi so that you can easily send the design you have created to your printer. Some models even have a USB port so that you can plug your designs straight into the machine. Most 3D printing companies have also created their own printing models that come with the printer but also allow you to design your own products with their own software.

1. 3D printers are the future of manufacturing businesses.
Even though some jobs can easily be cut because of these ingenious machines, 3D printers are not only more productive but are also more environmentally friendly. When you build something, you usually have scraps leftover. With a 3D printer, it knows the mold and design and builds only what is needed, making 3D printers more economically and earth friendly. 3D printers also have the advantage of becoming a productive manufacturing tool. With the purchase of a commercial 3D printer, higher production volumes can be achieved and larger products can be designed.
