We’ve all got guilty pleasures*. We’re all a little nostalgic for the cheesy songs we liked in middle school**. We all liked Billy Joel at some point***. We all know every word to Lisa Loeb’s “Stay”****. We all listen to soft-rock radio when we’re alone in the car at night*****. We all go to Mandy Moore chat rooms with screen names like “PopPr!ncess1982” and sleep in oversized Tim McGraw T-shirts*****. Right?
I enlisted the help of the Paste staff on this one******. Enjoy this list of our guilty pleasure songs.
And rest assured that we’re not playing the irony card here (The Spin Doctors are such tools, they’ve circled lame and they’re cool again!). We genuinely like these songs, and we do feel mildly embarrassed about it*******. Add your own and make fun of ours in the comments section!

Really, anything from Donnie, Ronnie, or Johnny Van Zant is a guilty pleasure of mine.
I received a CD in the mail yesterday called “Guilt by Association.” It features various hipsters (Davendra Banhart, Superchunk) covering the cheesiest songs from the past three decades. My favorite was Petra Haden (jazz bassist Charlie’s daughter) doing a stunning a capella version (including the Neil Schon guitar parts) of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin.” It’s a pleasure I don’t even feel guilty about.
Dwight Yoakam and Eddie Grant are guilty pleasures? I hope not. If so, I plead guilty.
I nominate a guy named Dicky Lee (even his name is a guilty pleasure), who in the pre-Beatles days had a string of macabre hits about dead high school girls who rose the from grave to attend the prom, wear the boyfriends’ letter sweater one last time, etc. I ate this stuff up at age 7. God forbid, I still like them.
I’ll add my name onto guilty pleasures #1 and #16 on that list.
And I’ll add Britney Spears’ “Lucky”. And Rachael, you know I’m with you on the Hanson. Those are just the tip of the iceberg…
It doesn’t get any guiltier than “Mandy” by Barry Manilow.
