Caprica

I just watched the trailer for the Battlestar Galactica prequel series Caprica. I doubt this will approach The Greatest Sci-Fi Show of All Time, but I'll watch it nonetheless. In wake of the success Battlestar has had in getting reviewers like me to say, "You don't have to like sci-fi to like this show," they've gone out of their way to call it a drama and downplay the sci-fi action.
Ronald D. Moore has done a tremendous job tackling the Big Questions of religion, technology, humanity, family, etc. We'll see how well he does it with Carpica, but I can't wait for the final season of Battlestar. Check out the trailer on The Sci-Fi Channel website.

Beers of the week
Klein Brewery

It took me way too long to get through my 12 favorite concerts, so I'm overdue on recommending a Beer of the Week. To make amends, I present to you two beers from a Belgian brewer I recently discovered: Klein Brouwerij. The first is the Saison D'Erpe-Mere. If you've enjoyed a Saison Dupont (and I've enjoyed my share), the Klein will rock your world. It's crisp, flavorful and hoppy without being overcome with bitterness. It was the first beer put out by the relatively new brewer and revealed a real gift for brewing.

The second beer is their De Glazen Toren Jan de Lichte. It's a wheat beer, but don't let that scare you off. It's a Dubbel Wit Bier, what could be called an Imperial Wheat Beer, and it leaves every wheat beer I've ever tasted in its dust. The Brick Store in Decatur, Ga., recently paired it with a 16-month Oak Hill Derby Cheddar on one of their beer and cheese nights (if you live in Atlanta, it's the first Monday evening of the month and it's heaven on the tastebuds). Klein adds oats and buckwheat to the usual mix of barley and wheat, reviving a very old beer-making tradition to great success. Look for the distinct Klein paper wrapping and enjoy.
