Part of the beauty of subscribing to McSweeney’s Quarterly Concern is never knowing what to expect. This December, Issue 33 of Dave Eggers’ literary journal will be in the form of an ancient delivery system for news, analysis and the funny papers—a newspaper. The one-off broadsheet, called the San Francisco Panorama will feature 32 pages of news, 24 pages of sports, 16 pages of comics and 16 pages of food, all on high-quality newsprint in an apparent effort to rub the noses of newspaper men and women across the nation in what they’ve lost.

The newspaper will also come with a 112-page magazine and, because it’s McSweeney’s, a 116-page books section. Contributions to the project include investigative reporting from Bob Porterfield and J. Malcolm Garcia, Stephen King on the World Series, Andrew Sean Greer on NASCAR, Michael Chabon on music, essays by Miranda July and James Franco, poetry by John Ashbery, and full-page comics from Art Spiegelman and Dan Clowes.

Panorama will go out to McSweeney’s subscribers or you can pre-order the single edition for $16 at The McSweeney’s Store.
