What is Paste?

Paste is a monthly, spectacularly written and conceived consumer print magazine. Paste looks for what we call "Signs of Life in Music, Film & Culture" and shines our spotlight on them. This means the best of a wide variety of music, somewhat concentrated in what "the industry" calls adult-album-alternative (Triple A), Americana and indie rock. We also enjoy hip-hop, world, jazz, and even some books (hey, we can read more than rock journalism) and (mostly) independent films. Each issue is packaged with a full-length music sampler (packed with at least 20 tracks, picked by our editors). Paste is about the artists, not about the artists' bodies. Recently Paste was both honored and humbled to be named #21 on the Chicago Tribune's '50 Best Magazines' list (right behind The New Yorker) and "Magazine of the Year" at the 2007 & 2006 PLUG Independent Music Awards.

Who owns Paste?

Paste is owned by Paste Media Group, LLC, which sounds a lot bigger than it is. Paste Media Group also operates an independent online retailer called PasteStore.com , as well as Paste Recommends, a listening station program at some of the best independent music stores in the country.

How long has Paste been around?

Depends on what you mean. Our first magazine issue came out in July of 2002. We first began selling CDs on the web at PasteMusic.com on December 3, 1998.

What about advertising?

We thought you'd never ask. Please visit this page for more information and contacts.

How do I subscribe to Paste?

An 11-issue subscription (one year) is $29.95 ($44.95 Canada, $59.95 International); 22-issue subscriptions (two year) cost $54.95 ($84.95 Canada, $114.95 International). The best way to order is online. You can also order by mail. Send check or money order (in U.S. funds) to: Paste, PO Box 292382, Kettering, OH 45429. If you absolutely must, you can call 1-866-370-9067 between 9am-5pm EST, Monday-Friday.

How do I change my mailing address?

You actually have an account set up on PasteMagazine.com and can do this yourself -- go to the top-right of this page and click My Profile once you are logged-in. If you never received a username or don't remember your password, visit this site to set your log-in information.

How do I/we/my band get featured or our CD reviewed in Paste?

Go ahead send it in. We of course can make no guarantees what we’ll do with your submission or assume any responsibility for the materials - BUT, we do make every effort to listen to everything that comes through the doors. Except that “new” Def Leppard CD we got not too long ago. We even listened to Avril Lavigne. Please don’t call us to see what we think - there’s just not enough time in the day. Send your stuff (or have your PR folks do it): Paste, PO Box 1606, Decatur, GA 30031.

Is Paste looking for writers and photographers?

Sure -- we’ve got a good stable of folks, but you can send your submissions by email to editor@pastemagazine.com or mail to Paste, PO Box 1606, Decatur, GA 30031. Photographers can point us to their photos online or send over some samples.

Is Paste hiring?

No.

What about internships?

But of course. Throughout the year, we offer internships in our editorial, marketing/business, design and multimedia departments. If you are interested in interning at Paste headquarters in Decatur, GA, please visit pastemagazine.com/internships for more information.

Where is Paste sold?

Pretty much all over the place. Try your local independent record store or bookstore (always ask if you don’t see it). Paste is sold in every Borders, Tower, Books-a-million, Hastings, and Joe Muggs in North America, plus tons of Barnes & Nobles, B. Daltons, etc. If you can’t find the current issue, you can always order it and back issues at www.pastemagazine.com/store.

How do tracks get placed on the Sampler?

Slots on the Paste Sampler are hard to come by and are by Paste’s invitation only - but they aren’t free. Think of them as advertisements that sing. But in order to give our subscribers the best value, Paste chooses the artists that we most want to feature. You are still welcome to pitch your artist for a Sampler track.
