From The Fillmore to First Avenue: Paste ranks America’s best
Decatur, GA (May 24, 2007) - Music venues are like people—they come in all shapes
and sizes, and each one has different assets or strengths. Some venues like Morrison, Colorado’s
Red Rocks and George, Washington’s Gorge Amphitheater find their beauty in
nature. Other venues, like Athens,
Georgia’s 40 Watt Club and Austin, Texas’ Stubb’s revel (and thrive) in
grittier surroundings. But big or
small, indoor or outdoor, clean or dirty
there’s certainly no shortage of
uniquely wonderful music venues located all across our country.
To compile this list, Paste magazine readers nominated over 500 different venues at www.pastemagazine.com. In the end, Paste weighed these nominations according to history, setting, sound, character, comfort, atmosphere, vibrancy, uniqueness and their roles in helping launch careers.
“To a certain degree, the
experience of live music has as much to do with ‘where you are’ as it does with
‘who you see’—and to that end, regardless of your particular musical tastes,
you could see a show at any of our 40 selected venues, and chances are you’ll
come away with a memorable experience,” explained Paste editor-in-chief Josh Jackson.
