Independent Music Title Nominated in Top Category
Decatur, GA (March 19, 2008)-On the heels of its 3rd consecutive PLUG Award for ‘Magazine of the Year,’ Paste magazine (www.pastemagazine.com) was nominated today by the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) for a 2008 National Magazine Award in the “General Excellence” category—the highest honor a magazine can receive. The fastest growing independently published entertainment magazine in the country, Paste has won over legions of readers with its commitment to substance and their ongoing search for “signs of life in music, film and culture”—the magazine’s tagline since its inception.
“This is an honor we never anticipated,” explained Editor-in-Chief Josh
Jackson. “We started out as a group of friends who were simply
passionate about great music, film and culture. And like anyone who’s
passionate, we wanted to share these joys with others. Paste became
our vehicle. That our readers have embraced us as they have
we’re just
so humbled by it. And it only feeds our desire to keep getting
better.”
Paste becomes only the fourth music magazine to be
nominated for “General Excellence” in the history of the National
Magazine awards. Other nominees in the category (circulation 100,000 -
250,000) include Foreign Policy, Mother Jones, Philadelphia Magazine
and Radar. The winners will be announced May 1st at New York City’s
Jazz at Lincoln Center.
“One of the most fulfilling aspects of
Paste has been exposing so many great independent artists, but also,
celebrating the deserving artists in our mainstream culture,” said
Publisher Nick Purdy. “There’s just so much terrific, worthy art out
there waiting to be discovered—in all corners—and when we help our
readers find something they love? That’s the ultimate payoff.”
“The
credit for this nomination goes to our entire staff,” added President
Tim Regan-Porter. “Month after month our writers turn in incredible
pieces. Then our award-winning design team adds their spice to make
our pages look beautiful. And without our hard-working business and
sales staff, none of this would be possible.”
