Decatur, GA (March 10, 2008) - For the third consecutive year, Paste magazine (www.pastemagazine.com) was selected as ‘Magazine of the Year’ at the 2008 Plug Independent Music Awards. Now in its fourth year, The Plug Awards bring the independent music community together to recognize its own. This year’s awards ceremony was held March 6th at Terminal 5 in New York City. Hosted by comedian Patton Oswalt, the ceremony featured performances by nominees Nick Cave, St. Vincent, Dizzee Rascal, The Forms and Di Vinci.
Winning the award, Paste beat out stiff competition from SPIN, Mojo, HARP, Filter, The FADER, URB, Under The Radar, XLR8R, The Wire, Magnet and Decibel.
“The Plug Awards were created to honor the spirit of independent music, an ethic and aesthetic that we strive to embody in our magazine,” said Josh Jackson, Editor-in-Chief of Paste. “Since the winners are picked by the fans, this means a great deal to us. To win this award three years in a row truly humbles us—and it only increases our drive to continue in our ongoing mission: finding signs of life in music, film and culture.”
“What I appreciate most about Paste is that the brand doesn't get in the way of forming one's opinion about what's being published inside the magazine,” said Amaechi Uzoigwe, Co-Proprietor, The Plug Independent Music Awards. “There's no cynical code or trendy style that one must subscribe to; just a genuine interest in the forces that move and shape the artistic expression happening around us. And, put simply, its a great f#!&ing read.”
Now in its sixth year, Paste magazine is one of the fastest-growing, independent entertainment magazines in the country. It is dedicated to bringing its readers thoughtful analysis of music, film and culture. From main stream artists to lesser-known independents, Paste seeks to find and expose the art that best enriches our world.
“This is an achievement that would be impossible without the wide swath of talented individuals who contribute to our pages,” said Nick Purdy, Publisher of Paste. “Our dedicated staff and network of contributing writers can lay claim to some of the best writing in music today, and our design team is second to none. This award is a tribute to all the people who make Paste possible.”
