Vimeo Festival + Awards has announced it will take place in New York City June 7-9. The list of judges include Aziz Ansari, James Franco, Colin Greenwood of Radiohead, Arcade Fire's video director Chris Milk and director Edgar Wright with many more. The Festival celebrates the best online video's and their creators in 13 categories with $5,000 grant to each category winner and one $25,000 grand prize winner. The festival encourages submissions from narrative films, documentaries and music videos to motion graphics, animation and fashion.  read more

Arcade Fire Announces Charity Campaign to Help Rebuild Haiti

This year Arcade Fire has taken the true spirit of holiday giving to heart. In a report today by Pitchfork, the Canadian indie-rock band is teaming up with nonprofit organization Kanpe to donate money to the rebuilding of Haiti. To encourage support, frontman Win Butler is asking the group’s fan base (which, since the band released The Suburbs in 2010 and subsequently won a Grammy, has grown considerably) to donate to Kanpe, promising to match every donation given up to $300,000. At the second annual Rock the Court Charity Basketball Tournament held at the University of Toronto, Win Butler of Arcade Fire took part in the tournament. Surprise, Butler is really good at basketball. Butler joined other musicians like Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam and Dallas Green of City and Colour for the charity event, playing alongside former NBA players Brent Barry and Paul Shirley and the Philadelphia 76ers’ Spencer Hawes.
